50/50 PROJECT NO.1: WHAT’S NEW?

MakeALife-WinstonChurchill-Designed By Good People

SHARING 50% OF THE PROFITS WITH HOMELESS CHARITY THE PASSAGE.

We love this quote, so much that despite the fact that our Kickstarter campaign wasn’t successful we’re still going ahead with our 50/50 project… with a few changes.

We’ve scaled down production, and have a new addition to the ‘Home Sweet Home’ family. A laser engraved poster that includes these quotes:

  • “We rise by lifting others”
  • “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give”
  •  “Be the change you want to see in the world”
  •  “If we always helped one another, no one would need luck”

These are manufactured in the UK using sustainably sourced plywood (of course!)

Also, here is a little teaser of the card engraved version that will be available soon:

We also have some A6 (ish) hand prints available too. They’re hand printed on 100% recycled card:

We think they’ll make great Christmas presents. 50% of the profits will go to The Passage, to help them end homelessness.

Last year The Passage housed 125 people through their accommodation projects alone, that’s 125 people that don’t have to call the streets home anymore. If you want to help us  increase that number, please visit our Fifty50 Etsy Shop:

50/50 Project No.1: Home Sweet Home.

HANDCRAFTED POSTERS & PRINTS SHARING 50% OF THE PROFITS WITH CHARITY THE PASSAGE, TO HELP THEM END HOMELESSNESS.

Why are we doing this?

Almost 8 years ago (before we started Designed By Good People), Lee and I were getting married just a few days before Christmas. During the wedding service we were told a good marriage should be 50/50, equally sharing responsibilities, chores and laughter, making sure we were equals in the relationship. We liked this. And this has been the inspiration for this project. “Shall we _____ 50/50?” is an expression that we use almost on a daily basis.

We believe that design can make a difference, but all too often is used to justify mindless consumerism. As a society, we often buy shinny new things that make us feel good for a while, but soon become something we ignore. We believe that design can work differently, wouldn’t it be nice to buy something that makes you feel good every time you looked at it?

Through Kicktstarter, we’ve launched our first 50/50 project, the idea is to design crafted products with a message and half of the profits will go to a good cause. After contacting a number of charities, we established a partnership with The Passage, half of the profits from our first 50/50 project will go to them.

Last year The Passage housed 125 people through their accommodation projects alone, that’s 125 people that don’t have to call the streets home anymore. That’s why we’re producing a limited edition of 125 posters at £125 each (unframed). They’re also available framed (at an extra cost).

A STORY ABOUT A LONDON CHARCUTIER

THE LONDON CHARCUTIER PACKAGING RANGE_LR

We met Simon at London Bridge after he contacted us to find out what he was doing and why he was doing it. He had trained as a chef but had a passion for charcuterie. He didn’t like things to be fake or designs that tried to hard. We talked about all sorts of subjects, not just his brand. When someone is the brand, it’s good to find out more about them than just what they want to promote and sell.

A FAIR TRADE STORY, DESIGNED BY GOOD PEOPLE

SLIDER_packs-2-1024x512-B

It’s halfway though Fairtrade Fortnight so we thought we would share a liberating story with you.

We have had a long relationship with Liberation Foods. They are the UK’s only fair trade, farmer owned nut company. In fact we were there right at the brands birth when we worked for a different agency. The people running it are passionate and believe in what they do. They are inspiring to work with and it was working with Liberation on their original branding that was in part, inspiration for us starting up on our own.

We believe you do better work when you believe in what you do. The only way to take control of who we worked for was to start up on our own. So Designed By Good People was born in 2010 to work for clients who believed what we believed: that the world should be more ethical, less wasteful, more sustainable. Continue reading

THE GREYHOUND MURAL LATEST

GREYHOUND MURAL DESIGNED BY GOOD PEOPLE

The Greyhound mural is finally installed, although no-one told us and you can’t see it! The building hasn’t been finished and is derelict, but strangely the mural has been installed and is covered in scaffolding. We were contacted by the South London Press about the mural and made it to the front page!

A VERY, VERY, MERRY CHRISTMAS, Designed By Good People 2012

designedbygoodpeople_x-mas2012

We don’t give out Christmas cards. But every year we have a Christmas story.

This is our third year. In the first year we bought gifts through Oxfam, buying mosquito nets, medicine, livestock and school books etc based on the 12 days of Christmas. Last year we bought 70 Children’s books for our local library that we helped the local community save from closure.

This year we are investing $1600 (£1000) in Kiva, helping:

WHAT IF RUISLIP MANOR

Hello!.
We have done a lot of work for small brands (much of which hasn’t come out yet so we can’t show anyone what we have been up to!). But alongside branding and packaging we have been doing a lot of high street improvement works.

We are working in Ruislip Manor alongside Hillingdon Council (who have been great), local businesses, the GLA, Meanwhile Space, Steer Davies Gleave and East Architects. We have been involved in the pop up shop there and improvements to shops and signage. We have run workshops with local businesses and are designing signage for a number of businesses there. It’s often tough working with so many small businesses, the council & GLA all at the same time and pulling together so many different quotes for the shops. But we hope to make a difference for people who matter, the little guys, the shops you know the owners of by name.
